How to Guides
Our How to Guides can be used when teaching face to face or online to support your teaching or given to students for independent study. Each guide contains explanations and worked examples of the different topics and methods and then allows students to practise questions themselves. Answer books contained detailed working for each answer to allow students to self-mark where desired.
Maths L2 – Compound Measure
This guide contains explanations and questions on compound interest, speed, density and rates of pay.
English L2 – Writing Speeches
This guide contains explanations and questions on how to write a speech along with a sample annotated speech.
Maths E1 – Where is it? (Positional Vocabulary)
This guide contains explanations and questions on how to describe where something is using the words left, right, behind, under, and above and be able to give basic directions.
English E2 – Punctuation
This guide contains explanations and questions on how to use full stops, question marks and exclamations marks correctly.
PowerPoints
Our PowerPoints can be used to support the How to Guides or used as standalone teaching resources. They contain explanations and questions for groups to discuss and try out in the classroom.

Maths E3 – Metric Part One
This PowerPoint explains how to measure length, weight and capacity and helps to understand the units we use for each.
Note: some questions encourage you to measure and weigh items in the room, so having appropriate instruments would be helpful. However, these slides can easily be missed out if you do not have the resources.
English L1 & L2 – Basic Language Devices
This PowerPoint explains common language devices such as direct address, rhetorical questions and inclusive language.
Activities
Designed to be used in face to face teaching with small groups or pairs, the activities help to practise skills you have taught. There are various types of activities such as quizzes, card sorting or tasks to do.
Maths L2 – Fractions Sorting Activity
An always, sometimes, never sorting activity to help identify misconceptions about fractions. The activity contains full tutor instructions and answers.
English E3 – Formal and Informal Quiz
A whole group quiz to identify examples of formal and informal language.
Life Skills
Our Life Skills series allows students to practise the skills they have learnt in real life contexts. Can also be used with students who have completed their functional skills or have GCSEs, but still need to show they are improving their skills.

This workbook is about renting a property and contains questions about working out pricing, reading a meter and percentages.
English E3 – Black Friday
This workbook contains activities around reading and writing in the context of Black Friday.
Note: access to a dictionary will be useful for at least one question.
English E3 – Women’s World Cup
This workbook contains activities around reading, writing and speaking and listening all in the context of the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
Note: access to a dictionary and the internet will be useful for some parts.
