These resources are designed with a specific industry focus to make them more relevant to apprentices or anyone who is thinking of working in one of the industries covered. They should support the vocational teaching and show the the relevance of functional skills in the real world.
We have just launched our materials for the care sector and will be adding more topics to these. We will then be working on other industries requested by subscribers.
The workbooks can be used alongside the how to guides for in depth study but contain examples and explanations meaning they can be used on their own. Great for those studying towards functional skills, but can also be given to exempt apprentices to show embedding and continual development.

Writing Emails
Explains how to structure and write an email in a care setting. Also covers formal and informal.
Risk assessments – layout and organisational features
Uses the context of doing a risk assessment to learn about layout and organisational features.
Money
Helps students to understand the terminology on their payslip and calculate wages uses the NHS pay bands. Includes percentages with tax rates.
Temperature
Helps students to understand how temperature might be relevant in different care scenarios. Includes understanding of negative numbers.
Units of Measurement
Students will use units of length, weight and capacity and convert between metric units. L2 students will also convert between metric and imperial measures. All in the context of various care scenarios such as weighing patients or giving medication.
Ratio
Demonstrates how to write ratios and find ratio parts using contexts such as staff to patient ratios and diluting medications.
Level Two
My Responsibilities & Imperative Verbs
Teaches students about the language feature imperative verbs and demonstrates how to write out a description of their role and responsibilities, which is often required as part of a care qualification.
